H.S.H. Prince Albert II launches the 1st program for clean mobility in the Antarctic
Major players from the worlds of science, industry, energy and logistics met up in Monaco on December 14th to celebrate the centenary of the conquest of the South Pole and define technical and scientific guidelines for the 1st program for clean mobility in the Antarctic.
This project was initiated by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco on his return from an expedition to the Antarctic in 2009, during which he visited 26 scientific stations to discuss issues notably related to climate change with researchers of all nationalities.
Entrusted to Venturi Automobiles and backed by the Prince Albert II Foundation, this highly technological program aims to introduce "zero emission" vehicles into the Antarctic, allowing for new scientific experiments to be carried out. It meets a real need on the part of the scientific community in the South Pole for the transportation of personnel and equipment to sites where studies are to be pursued.
Experts on the polar regions who attended the conference on Wednesday, December 14th, confirmed the scientific value and feasibility of the program. The first experimental campaign in the Antarctic should be launched during the Austral summer 2013 - 2014.
